Pelorus Jack
This carving depicts Pelorus Jack, the dolphin which once guided boats through French Pass in the Marlborough Sounds. Or alternatively, the believed ancestor of Pelorus Jack, which guided Kupe through the same pass when he discovered the South Island. On one side is the anchor of post European New Zealand, and on the other side the fish hook of Maori times.
